Frequently Asked Questions
How will you make sure regular TransLink customers can still get where they need to go during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Vancouver?
Existing TransLink customers remain a priority, and we know people still need transit for work, school, and appointments during the tournament. That’s why TransLink is adding service to serve matches at BC Place Vancouver and the FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver. More capacity in key areas helps reduce crowding and keeps the system moving.
If detours or schedule changes are needed, TransLink will share information early and often through our usual channels so customers can plan ahead.
Will there be extra transit service on match days?
Yes. TransLink will increase service on match days, building on what we already do for big events. That includes more frequent SkyTrain service, extra buses on key routes, additional SeaBus sailings, special weekend West Coast Express trips, and later service where needed.
Some details will be finalized closer to the tournament once match schedules are confirmed, and we have a clearer picture of expected demand.
Are you planning to provide extra SkyTrain service during the tournament?
Yes. SkyTrain service will increase before and after matches at BC Place Vancouver, with trains running through downtown every 2 to 2.5 minutes. In addition, SkyTrain service on the Canada Line, Expo Line, and Millennium Line will run one hour later on June 13, June 26, and July 2 for late evening matches.
To support later SkyTrain hours, extra bus service will also be in place at key hubs, similar to what TransLink provides on New Year’s Eve. Buses will meet last SkyTrain departures at locations including Bridgeport Station, Surrey Central Station, and Coquitlam Central Station.
What extra bus service will you be providing to help people get to and from the FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver?
To help people get to and from the FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver, TransLink will be significantly increasing bus service to the area throughout the event. This includes more frequent service, direct connections, and added capacity on certain routes. Together, these improvements will provide fast, frequent, and reliable transit options so people can travel to and from the FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver without needing to drive. These enhanced services to the FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver will operate only on days when the Fan Fest is open.
Does the increased downtown bus service for FIFA World Cup 2026 Vancouver mean TransLink is launching new routes?
No, these are not new routes. To meet increased demand during FIFA World Cup 2026 Vancouver, TransLink will add extra service in the downtown core using modified versions of existing bus routes that operate on the busiest portions of their usual alignments. This approach lets us add capacity where it’s needed most while maintaining strong connections to key hubs like SkyTrain stations, the SeaBus, and other transit services, helping move large crowds while continuing to support everyday travel.
