    Frequently Asked Questions

How will you make sure regular TransLink customers can still get where they need to go during the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Vancouver?

Existing TransLink customers remain a priority, and we know people still need transit for work, school, and appointments during the tournament. That’s why TransLink is adding service to serve matches at BC Place Vancouver and the FIFA Fan Festival™ Vancouver. More capacity in key areas helps reduce crowding and keeps the system moving.

If detours or schedule changes are needed, TransLink will share information early and often through our usual channels so customers can plan ahead.

Will there be extra transit service on match days?

Yes. TransLink will increase service on match days, building on what we already do for big events. That includes more frequent SkyTrain service, extra buses on key routes, additional SeaBus sailings, special weekend West Coast Express trips, and later service where needed.

More details can be found on the Transit Service Changes page .

Are you planning to provide extra SkyTrain service during the tournament?

Yes. SkyTrain service will increase before and after matches at BC Place Vancouver, with trains running through downtown every 2 to 2.5 minutes. In addition, service will run one hour later on June 13, June 26, and July 2 for late evening matches.

Will there be any bike, e-bike & scooter restrictions on transit during the tournament?

Some restrictions may apply during peak periods and match days. Learn more on our Bikes on Transit page .

    What should employers expect?

From June 11 to July 19, Vancouver is hosting seven FIFA World Cup 2026™ matches at BC Place Vancouver. An estimated 350,000 spectators are expected across the seven match days, in addition to up to 25,000 visitors at Hastings Park at any given time during the 28 operating days of the FIFA Fan Festival™.

For businesses and those commuting to downtown Vancouver, plan ahead, know your route and give yourself extra time. Downtown is open and on match days there will be temporary measures in place in the stadium area, including road closures and local traffic-only restrictions for vehicles.

    Plan Ahead for Match Days

    Match Schedule

Seven matches will take place in Vancouver on the following days:

    • Saturday, June 13, 9 pm kick-off

    • Thursday, June 18, 3 pm kick-off

    • Sunday, June 21, 6 pm kick-off

    • Wednesday, June 24, 12 pm kick-off

    • Friday, June 26, 8 pm kick-off

    • Thursday, July 2, 8 pm kick-off

    • Tuesday, July 7, 1 pm kick-off

In general, the busiest travel periods are expected to occur approximately two hours before and after each match.

    Event-Related Road Closures

On match days, there will be road closures in effect and some roads will be designated “local traffic only” for vehicles around BC Place Vancouver and False Creek.

    What to expect:

    • From May 23 through the end of July, Pacific Boulevard will be closed between the Cambie Street Bridge off-ramp and Carrall Street to expand the stadium footprint and ensure public safety.

    • On the seven match days, there will be additional temporary road closures and restrictions in the stadium area. Plan for a full day of closures and restrictions. Refer to the City of Vancouver's road closure maps for more information.

    • Walking and wheeling access will generally be maintained with some exceptions.

    • The seawall will remain open throughout this time.

    • Emergency services such as police, fire and ambulance will have access to all roads.

    • Keep an eye on FIFA World Cup 2026™ Vancouver and City of Vancouver social media channels for road closure information.

    How Employers Can Prepare

Vancouver has a strong track record of successfully hosting major international events, while helping businesses maintain continuity and operations. As FIFA World Cup 2026™ approaches, these strategies can help your organization stay productive, adaptable, and well-connected.

Encourage Transit, Walking, Biking, and Rolling

Transit, walking, biking, and rolling will often be faster than driving during event days, especially in key areas of the city. Choosing public transit options helps ensure that you and your staff can access downtown reliably and efficiently. Walking, biking, or rolling to work is another great option—TransLink allows bikes on most transit vehicles, with some exceptions during peak periods. Learn more on our Bikes on Transit page.

    Recommended Actions:

    • Encourage employees to take transit, walk, bike, or roll where possible.

    • Allow extra travel time (15+ minutes).

    • Promote walking and biking for short trips.

    • Encourage employees to use on-site bike parking and end-of-trip facilities, if available.

    • Promote the use of TransLink’s Park and Rides, carshare options, and carpooling, to make sure staff who need to drive for all or part of their journey can do so efficiently.

    • Visit our Transit Alerts page or sign up to receive updates by text message (SMS) and/or email about disruptions, updates, or changes to the transit services you take.

    Flexible Work Options

    Recommended Actions:

    • Where practical for your organizational needs, offer flexible worksite options for employees on match days.

    • Adjust shift schedules to avoid peak travel times if practical.

    • Consider staggered start and end times for employees.

    Why This Helps

Flexible work arrangements reduce congestion and improve productivity during large events. Prioritizing alternative locations for work during peak days and game time periods will significantly reduce employee travel delays and keep your staff productive.

    Communicate Early & Often

    Recommended Actions:

    • Share travel information with employees.

    • Encourage employees to plan ahead.

    • Identify essential on-site staff and make a plan for their access and routes, especially if they require a vehicle.

    Best Practices Checklist

    • Explore flexible work arrangements on match days.

    • Adjust work hours and shifts.

    • Promote transit and walking, biking, and rolling.

    • Schedule deliveries on non-match days.

    • Allow extra travel time on match days.

    • Plan for increased foot traffic, especially after matches.

    Summary

The FIFA World Cup 2026™ Vancouver will bring excitement and increased activity to the region. While temporary travel impacts are expected, businesses that plan ahead can minimize disruption and even benefit from increased foot traffic.

Plan ahead. Communicate early. Stay flexible.
