TransLink rolls out winter service changes on December 19
New Westminster, BC – Beginning Monday, December 19, customers can more easily connect to the SkyTrain. With the opening of the Evergreen Extension, this December marks one of the largest service change on record, and TransLink is encouraging customers to plan ahead.
Starting November 28, the online Trip Planner will be updated to help customers plan their route with new travel information. Simply choose December 19—the date of regular bus service changes—as your travel date to find out what option works best for you.
Highlights of the 2016 winter service changes:
-
With the addition of six new SkyTrain stations and 11km of track, this region will have a new transit choice that offers faster, more frequent and direct service between Coquitlam and Vancouver.
-
The Evergreen Extension gives us the opportunity to redesign the bus network. Twenty-two bus routes in the Tri-Cities will change, including the C24, 97 B-Line, 160, 188 and the 143.
-
Adjusting routes serving schools and post-secondary institutions to better reflect ridership during a two-week special holiday schedule.
-
Implementing recommendations from the 2015 Transit Network Review to the 5, 6, C23 and a new B-Line connecting Hastings with Downtown Vancouver.
-
Christmas and Boxing Day will run on a Sunday/holiday service schedule. Some routes will be modified to provide more frequent service.
Total service hours across the region remain the same, and the same number of employees and bus operators will deliver the service. Four times per year, as part of regular winter service changes, TransLink redesigns transit service across the region to reflect seasonal ridership and put services where they are needed most.
