Regional Transportation Strategy

Major Boulevard, Urban Centre: Traffic-separated transit and walking, biking, and rolling make it safe and comfortable to travel. At the same time, shared autonomous vehicles provide convenient options for people to access the convenience of a car, without the burdens of ownership.

After three years in the making, Transport 2050 is here! The new Regional Transportation Strategy will improve transportation for the people who live, work, and play in Metro Vancouver.

Station Access and Safety Project

Skytrain stopped at Waterfront station

To expand and improve transit service in Metro Vancouver, we’ll be updating our SkyTrain fleet by adding longer, five-car trains that can carry more passengers. More than 200 new Mark V SkyTrain cars are currently in production and are expected to begin arriving in the region late 2023.

Accessible Navigation Project

Accessible Navigation code sign on bus stop pole in New Westminster

We piloted a new technology to make it easier for customers with sight loss to navigate the transit system. Using the NaviLens smartphone app, customers in three locations in New Westminster and Vancouver could receive audio and haptic cues to help find their bus stop and receive other updates. This pilot concluded on August 21, 2023.
