Coast Mountain Bus Company
As the largest operating company in the integrated TransLink enterprise, Coast Mountain Bus Company (CMBC) serves customers in Metro Vancouver, the largest single transit service area in Canada. CMBC operates more than 96 per cent of the region’s bus service including a fleet of clean-fuel conventional buses and zero-emission trolley buses. Passenger ferry service across Burrard Inlet via the SeaBus is also operated by CMBC.
Via contracts overseen by CMBC, West Vancouver Blue Bus and First Transit provide the remaining four per cent of bus service in the region. First Transit provides both Community Shuttle service in Langley and Bowen Island as well as the custom transit service, HandyDART.
In addition to bus service, CMBC provides several support services to the TransLink enterprise including Transit Security (separate from Transit Police), Customer Information, revenue collection, environmental services, and Bus Operator training.
CMBC has almost 6,000 employees, a majority of whom are Bus Operators. Employees are spread across six transit centres (bus depots), two SeaBus terminals, and offices at Gateway in Surrey, Columbia Street in New Westminster, and Stadium–Chinatown in Vancouver.
CMBC employees are on the frontlines and behind-the-scenes and many are focused on planning, scheduling, designing, and delivering regular transit service each year, connecting people, businesses, and communities in the Metro Vancouver region.
CMBC delivers nearly 107 million service kms yearly in a 1,800 km2 service area serving Metro Vancouver.
Bus Service Hours
The fleet provides approximately 5.5 million conventional transit service hours each year.
Bus Stops and Infrastructure
The network encompasses over 8,360 bus stops, 22 rectifier stations, 10,700 trolley line poles, 320 kms of trolley line as well as 100 bus exchanges and Park & Rides.
Vancouver was incorporated as a city in 1886, and almost overnight the population exploded to 15,000 people. In April 1889, the newly formed Vancouver Electric Railway and Light Company began laying track down Granville Street.
On June 27, 1890, the entire 9.6 kms of track opened with six streetcars. The public bus system evolved from the first electric streetcar to the multi-modal transit system we have today. The bus company has operated under different names over its history including BC Electric, BC Hydro, Metro Transit, BC Transit, Coast Mountain BusLink, and finally, Coast Mountain Bus Company after the founding of TransLink in 1999.

Each type of vehicle requires specialized training and expertise to operate and maintain everything from hydraulic brakes to self-diagnostic onboard computers. Out on the road, CMBC’s multi-skilled Road Services Teams provide a quick response to a wide range of technical issues, which ensures minimal disruption to the travelling public.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors provides general oversight to the management of CMBC with respect to strategic planning, annual budgets, performance reporting and the hiring of the President & General Manager. The Board is comprised of three directors appointed by the TransLink Board, and meets on a quarterly basis.
Anne is a seasoned senior executive with 30 years of leadership experience, most recently in the position of Chief Operating Officer with Pacific Blue Cross. In this capacity, Anne’s primary responsibility was ensuring the efficient operations of Pacific Blue Cross, utilizing Lean methodology, focusing on the customer experience and overseeing the operations of BC Life & Casualty Company. Prior to this role, Anne held leadership positions in the area of Human Resources and Labour Relations, both at Pacific Blue Cross and Canadian Airlines.
Anne possesses a strong understanding of board governance and oversight. She holds an ICD.D certification (Institute of Corporate Directors) and in addition to CMBC, she serves on the Board of Directors for E-Comm 911, Pacific Salmon Endowment Fund Society, and the Canadian Mental Health Association North and West Vancouver Branch.
Anne has a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Industrial Relations from the University of British Columbia.
Janice is the President and CEO of Belterra and its American sister company, which are both owned by Marubeni Corporation, one of the largest general trading companies, also known as “sogo shoshas,” in Japan. Janice is responsible for integrating the North American material handling businesses, steering the company’s overall direction, and leading mergers and acquisitions while ensuring employees have the knowledge and resources they need to succeed and thrive. As a passionate, driven, and creative leader, Janice has played an integral role in the development of the company’s HR policies, its adoption of new technology, and the creation of a workplace culture centered on health, safety, and respect.
Prior to her current role, Janice joined Belterra in 2012 as Chief Financial Officer, supporting and guiding the company’s finances, health and safety, human resources, IT and supply chain for four years before taking on the role of Executive Vice President. Janice also brings with her more than 25 years of experience in senior leadership roles with a diverse array of manufacturing and distribution companies, including Purdy’s Chocolates, QLT Inc. & Integrated Paving Concepts Ltd.
Janice is an active community member, having held a position on the Board of Directors for Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation since 2015.
Steve is the Vice-President of Customer Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs at TransLink. In this role, he is responsible for communications, marketing and advertising programs, community and public affairs, and customer experience strategy for the TransLink enterprise. Over the last year, TransLink has been the fastest rising brand in British Columbia and is leading all North American transit organizations in ridership growth.
Steve previously served 10 years as head of communications and public affairs for BC Hydro, where he delivered a complete re-brand of the organization as well as guiding it to being recognized as the Most Influential Brand and one of the Most Loved Brands in British Columbia. He was previously Deputy Chief of Staff to the Premier of British Columbia, and served as the Executive Director of the British Columbia Government Caucus. He was formerly a journalist including work as a member of the B.C. Legislative Press Gallery. Steve is a graduate of Simon Fraser University and has an MBA from the University of Victoria.

President & General Manager
Michael is a seasoned business executive with industry experience ranging from entertainment and hospitality to transportation. He joined Coast Mountain Bus Company in 2018 as President and General Manager following three years on the CMBC Board of Directors of which he served two years as Chair. In this position, Michael gained insight into the role of the bus company both in the region and within the TransLink enterprise
Prior to CMBC, he was President and CEO of the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) and responsible for its overall operation, as well as community and government relations. During his time at the PNE, Michael led the organization through its transition from provincial ownership to the City of Vancouver. He was also instrumental in developing a long-term future for the PNE and Hastings Park, including a City Council approved 30-year Master Plan and an approved governance structure
Before rising to President and CEO, Michael held the role of Vice President of Human Resources, managing employee and labour relations, performance management, recruitment and retention, payroll, benefits, and occupational health and safety.
Prior to joining the PNE, Michael worked in the hospitality, tourism and entertainment industry for companies both locally and in the United States, and also spent time as a contract consultant, providing expertise in corporate and management development.
Michael is actively involved in the community, serving on the Board of Directors for both the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society (Celebration of Light Fireworks) and the Tri City Youth Basketball Association. In 2005, he was recognized as one of Vancouver's "Top 40 under 40" by Business in Vancouver. He has also served as a mentor with Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business.
Michael holds a bachelor’s degree from Simon Fraser University.
Vice President, Operations
Don began his career in public transportation as a Port Authority of Allegheny County Bus/Rail Operator in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 2003. He worked his way to the position of Director of Road Operations before taking on the role of Chief Operating Officer for the Capital Area Transit System in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He joined Coast Mountain Bus Company in 2017 with a wealth of transit operations knowledge and experience. Don currently oversees one of the largest divisions within CMBC, which includes six operational depots, Transit Security, TComm/Transit Supervisors, and Service Design.
Don earned a Master of Business Administration from Point Park University and Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from Duquesne University. Prior to starting his post-secondary education, he was a Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps, where he was first introduced to transit by serving as a Motor Transport Operator and Line Mechanic. Don has received numerous industry awards including being named a "40 Under 40" by Mass Transit magazine in 2020. He has a well-earned reputation for his focus on customer service excellence.
Vice President, Maintenance
Randy joined CMBC in December 2015 as Director, Infrastructure Engineering. In this role, he was responsible for Trolley Overhead, Infrastructure Development and Maintenance and capital project development.
Prior to joining CMBC, Randy worked for the Corporation of the Town of Prescott, Ontario where he was Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). During his time, he worked on a number of projects including RiverWalk Park, strategic plans and ongoing fire hall and arena projects.
Randy has also worked with other municipalities and corporations (West Nipissing, Cornwall Community Hospital and Union Gas) where he was responsible for managing and supervising various infrastructure maintenance, operations and capital project functions.
Randy holds a bachelor‘s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lakehead University and is a registered professional engineer (P.Eng.) in BC and Ontario.
Executive Director, Finance & Corporate Services
Roger joined CMBC in 2020. With more than 20 years of experience, and a career built across a wide range of both public and private sector organizations, he is uniquely qualified to lead CMBC's most diverse division. Roger began his finance and accounting career at McDonald's Restaurants of Canada, continuing on to Labatt Breweries, Mr. Lube, Intrawest and the PNE.
More recently, Roger worked in the manufacturing industry at Garibaldi Glass Industries, a fabricator of custom glass solutions in Burnaby, where he had been Chief Financial Officer since 2016. At Garibaldi Glass, Roger was a champion for Lean, focused on continuous improvement and relentlessly committed to never stop questioning why or how a business process is done. Roger led numerous projects to rethink processes and systems to effectively improve financial activities. He also oversaw a full-scale redevelopment of Garibaldi's annual budgeting process, restructured pricing, and created a dynamic and flexible revenue forecasting tool.
Roger is a designated accountant, receiving his CPA, CMA designation in 2001.
