West Coast Express Fares

 

Customers can use a Compass Card or Compass Ticket to travel on West Coast Express (WCE).

Customers with Compass Cards can load products onto their card online, by phone, at a Compass Vending Machine located in each of the WCE stations, or in person at either the WCE Customer Service Centre (Waterfront Station, second floor) or the Compass Customer Service Centre at Stadium–Chinatown Station.

Customers can purchase Compass Tickets from Compass Vending Machines located in each of the WCE stations with cash, a credit or debit card, or using Stored Value on their Compass Card.

Load your Compass Card online at compasscard.ca, at a Compass Vending Machine, or visit the West Coast Express office on the second floor of Waterfront Station.

WCE Compass Products

Monthly Passes

Calendar Monthly Passes can be loaded on a Compass Card and are best for regular riders.

In order to load a Monthly Pass, you need to have a Compass Card. Monthly Passes are transferrable and valid for an entire calendar month. Visit our Where to Buy page for information on where to get a Compass Card, and how to load it with the fare product of your choice.

You can pre-purchase your next month's pass through all channels (online, at a Compass Vending Machine, by phone, or in person) starting on the 20th of each month until the 15th of the next. You can purchase a Monthly Pass at any time online. Your credit card will be charged at the time of purchase, and passes are activated the first time you tap during the pass period for which your pass is valid (typically on the first of the month). Monthly Passes are not pro-rated for purchase at any point.

Stored Value

Stored Value can be loaded on a Compass Card and is best for occasional riders who make one or two trips per day.

Return Passes

Return Passes (also called a DayPass) are best for occasional WCE riders who make more than two trips per day (for example, you also use conventional transit during the day or evening). You can load up to three Return Passes on your Compass Card and use them at your convenience.

Return Tickets

Return Tickets are best for occasional WCE riders who make more than two trips per day (for example, you also use conventional transit during the day or evening) and don't have a Compass Card. These can be purchased at Compass Vending Machines.

Compass Tickets

Single-ride Compass Tickets are dispensed at Compass Vending Machines and are best for customers who occasionally use WCE and don't have a Compass Card.



Fare Categories

Adult Fare

Applicable to any trip made by anyone over 13 years of age who doesn’t have a high school student ID, CNIB ID Compass Card, HandyCard, War Amputee Pass, or BC Transit Government Bus Pass.

Concession Fare

Eligible for HandyCard holders, seniors 65 years and older and youth 14 to 18 years with valid photo identification proving age, and children 5 to 13 years. Children under 5 years ride free when accompanied by an adult (maximum 4 children per adult).

CNIB Pass holders

Free / No Fare Required. CNIB pass holders residing in Metro Vancouver can ride free on WCE.

U-Pass Holders

A U-Pass BC gives post-secondary students access to bus, SeaBus, and SkyTrain services within Metro Vancouver, as well as discounts on West Coast Express.

U-Pass BC customers can purchase a Monthly Pass for WCE at the West Coast Express office (Waterfront Station, second floor), the Compass Customer Service Centre (Stadium–Chinatown Station) or by calling 604.398.2042. The WCE U-Pass BC Monthly Pass is $96.

 

Transferring

Customers with West Coast Express fare products can transfer to, and between, conventional transit modes (e.g., bus, SeaBus, and SkyTrain) within the designated time periods for transfers and in-system times at no extra charge.

Effective Dec. 1, 2015, WCE customers are required to pay for travel to and from the Central Fraser Valley Transit system.

 

Upgrades for West Coast Express

Compass customers travelling on the following fares will receive a one-zone credit ($2.85 for a 1-Zone adult product and $1.80 for a concession product) towards a West Coast Express trip: Stored Value, a Monthly Pass, DayPass, U-Pass BC, BC Scrap-It Program Pass, and a Single Fare paid with cash (on a Compass Ticket) are eligible. Make sure you have enough Stored Value on your Compass Card before you start travelling, to cover the cost of upgrading your West Coast Express trip.
