Canada Line Bike & Pedestrian Bridge
The 1km Canada Line Bridge carries more than just trains. Built in 2009, the underside of the bridge features a dedicated cycling and walking path – connecting Vancouver and Richmond over the Fraser River.
Golden Ears Bridge
The Golden Ears Bridge is a 1 kilometre six-lane bridge spanning the Fraser River and connecting the communities of Surrey and Langley to Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. It was built to replace the upstream Albion Ferry serving as a more efficient river crossing for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Since it’s opening in 2009, the bridge has helped to reduce commute times for users and greenhouse gas emissions by preventing longer-than-necessary vehicle trips. The bridge also features bike-pedestrian protected lanes in both directions and is well utilized by commuter and recreational cyclists.
Golden Ears Way Maintenance
From Oct. 21 – 22, 2026, the multi-use pathway on Golden Ears Way near Telegraph Trail in Surrey will be closed temporarily while crews complete sanitary manhole work.
What to Expect
Work is scheduled to take place between 8AM and 3PM on October 20 and 21, 2026. Nearby residents and businesses can expect some noise.
Multi-use pathway users will be directed to take the detour through 98a Avenue.

Golden Ears Way Expansion Project
Detailed design is currently underway to bring Golden Ears Way between Lougheed/Highway 7 and 210 Street from its current two-lane configuration to four lanes. North of the Lougheed Connector, Golden Ears Way is currently a two-lane road connecting to a four-lane corridor.
Traffic volume on the bridge has increased since the bridge was built. By expanding parts of Golden Ears Way, we are improving corridor reliability, accommodating future travel demand, and supporting goods movement across our region.
The project area is located near Katzie First Nation reserve lands. TransLink is committed to working collaboratively with Katzie First Nation throughout project planning and delivery in support of a respectful relationship and reconciliation.
To date, TransLink has secured $20M in the TransLink 2026 Business Plan Operating and Capital Budget towards this project, and the City of Maple Ridge has agreed to contribute up to $1M to support the detailed design, with additional funding coming from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The timeline for this project is subject to detailed design work, permitting, and engagement with First Nations.
We will share further details as the project progresses.
Knight Street Bridge
Spanning 1.4 kilometres across the North Arm of the Fraser River, the Knight Street Bridge has served as a
critical connection for the movement of people, goods, and services between Vancouver and Richmond since opening
in 1974. The bridge also provides access to Mitchell Island and two major highways at its south end.
With more than 100,000 vehicle crossings on an average weekday, the Knight Street Bridge is the second busiest
bridge in the Lower Mainland, and maintenance is critical to ensuring the continued safety and reliability of
this crossing for all bridge users.
Westham Island Bridge
The Westham Island Bridge connects Ladner with Westham Island. It opened to traffic on March 29, 1910. The bridge
is approximately 325 metres long and has a swing span that opens for marine passage below. As one of
TransLink’s oldest assets, the bridge requires ongoing inspections, repairs, and maintenance to ensure it remains operational
and safe.
For current marine navigation notices, check the Canadian Coast Guard’s NAVWARN system.

Ongoing Bridge Maintenance
TransLink conducts regular inspections and rehabilitation work to keep the Westham Island Bridge in good working condition. Over the years, this has included structural repairs, replacing timber components, mechanical upgrades, and a swing span rehabilitation project to support safe bridge and marine operations.
We continue to inspect, maintain, and repair the bridge as needed, and will share updates about work that may affect bridge access or marine navigation.
For questions about the bridge, email us at westham.island.bridge@translink.ca.
