New upgraded Expo Line elevators open at Nanaimo and 22nd Street stations
Replacement work begins on other elevator at both stations as program continues

VANCOUVER, BC – TransLink has completed the first phase of elevator replacements at Nanaimo and 22nd Street SkyTrain stations, marking an important milestone in the Expo Line Elevator Replacement Program. Two new upgraded elevators at each station opened for customers on December 24.
These new elevators replace 40-year-old infrastructure with modern, more spacious ones designed to improve accessibility and reliability for customers.
The new Expo Line elevators feature:
- More room for customers with mobility devices, strollers, bikes, and luggage.
- Better reliability and reduced downtime for maintenance.
- Better resilience in warm weather.
Replacement work now moves into the next phase at both SkyTrain stations. Construction will begin on the second elevator at Nanaimo Station on January 5, followed by 22nd Street Station on January 6. During this work, the elevator being replaced at each station will be closed for approximately four months.
Expo Line elevator replacement work continues at Stadium–Chinatown and Waterfront stations.
Please allow 15 to 20 minutes of extra travel time at affected stations. Go to translink.ca/elevators for full detour directions using nearby stations.
