Expo Line maintenance in Vancouver this Saturday

Customers should build in 20 minutes of extra travel time with service levels reduceA busy SkyTrain station with customers moving to board a SkyTrain

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC – Expo Line service will be temporarily reduced, and travel patterns adjusted, for a full day on Saturday, March 30. This is necessary for essential maintenance work to ensure the continued safety and reliability of SkyTrain.

As part of the SkyTrain Maintenance and Upgrade Program, two switch machines will be replaced at Waterfront Station. These new machines will allow trains to change tracks and change directions more reliably at Waterfront Station, reducing service gaps for customers. This maintenance work is a critical component to ensure efficient service to customers travelling on the Expo Line.

TEMPORARY SERVICE REDUCTIONS
Customers using Expo Line should build in 20 minutes of extra travel time to account for temporary service level reductions. Trains travelling through downtown Vancouver will arrive at stations approximately every 8 to 15 minutes on Expo Line, as opposed to their regular schedule of every 3 to 4 minutes. Additional SkyTrain staff will be on-site to assist customers.

TRAVEL PATTERN ADJUSTMENTS
Customers travelling into downtown Vancouver on the Expo Line will also see trains terminating at different stations and may need to transfer trains to reach their destination. Some trains travelling toward Waterfront Station will terminate early at Stadium–Chinatown, Granville, or Burrard. Waterfront Station will have the least train service, with one train arriving and departing that station every 15 minutes.

  • Travelling to Waterfront from King George Station:
Customers will be able to take a single train to reach Waterfront from King George Station.

  • Travelling to Waterfront from Production Way–University Station:
Customers should board the first available train at Production Way–University Station, and are encouraged to transfer at Stadium–Chinatown Station to complete their trip to Waterfront Station.
