NEW WESTMINSTER, BC – Metro Vancouver transit trips are getting a superhero-sized dose of Canadian pride, with new limited-edition Captain Canuck Compass Cards. In partnership with licensor Lev Gleason Publications Inc., TransLink is releasing special bundles spotlighting the iconic comic book superhero.

With two unique character designs, each bundle includes a Compass Card and poster. They will be sold at Fan Expo Vancouver from Feb. 14 to 16 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. They will also be available online through the TransLink Store, while supplies last.

“We’re thrilled to bring a piece of historic Canadian pop culture onto our transit system,” says TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “These cool collectibles add a distinctly Canadian moment to every tap, whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering Captain Canuck for the first time.”

Bundles will be available for $39.99 at the Lev Gleason booth (#1131) at Fan Expo Vancouver. The Captain Canuck Compass Cards are adult fares and will be encoded with a $6 refundable deposit. Purchases are limited to four bundles per customer. Each bundle comes with a vintage or modern style of the comic book character — making them a must-have for collectors.

“My parents moved to beautiful BC in 1975, the year I first published Captain Canuck,” says creator Richard Comely. “My wife and I moved to BC in late 2024, in time to commemorate the character’s 50th anniversary. As new British Columbians, we are honoured that a world-renowned public service like TransLink has made Captain Canuck available to Metro Vancouverites in such a novel way."

Richard Comely’s vintage character design pairs his artwork with a Mark I-inspired car, a symbol of TransLink’s history and innovation. This collectible proudly blends Canadian comic nostalgia and transit heritage. The modern-style version, designed by Vancouver illustrator John Gallagher, is a bold, contemporary depiction featuring a new Mark V SkyTrain.

Captain Canuck is a Canadian comic book superhero created in 1975 by Richard Comely and Ron Leishman. The series was the first successful Canadian comic book since the collapse of the country’s comic book industry after the Second World War. A new series from Lev Gleason Publications Inc. reimagines Captain Canuck as a 21st-century icon.

This exciting collaboration gives transit customers a fun, uniquely Canadian way to celebrate pop culture and national pride every time they tap their Compass Card. The Captain Canuck bundles follow other limited-edition TransLink releases, including DC Super Hero and Elf-themed Compass Cards.
