TransLink seeking feedback on changes to Steveston Bus Exchange

Proposed changes would reduce bus congestion in retail area of Steveston Village

Buses in front of businesses at Steveston Bus Exchange

RICHMOND, BC – TransLink is seeking public input until March 1 on proposed changes to the Steveston Bus Exchange — which would reduce bus congestion near a retail district and accommodate local businesses.

Through engagement with the community, TransLink is proposing changes to the bus exchange on Chatham Street and changes to some bus stops in Steveston to better serve customers and residents.

Proposed changes to the Steveston Bus Exchange include:

  • Moving five bus parking areas away from the front of retail businesses and closer to industrial land on the south side of Chatham Street — improving accessibility to local businesses.
  • Reducing bus traffic in the residential area along Fourth Avenue by moving the bus turnaround route to Seventh Avenue, Moncton Street, and Sixth Avenue.
  • Adding enhanced bus shelters and new bus stops along Chatham Street.

In addition to these proposed changes, TransLink will continue working with the City of Richmond to identify a suitable site for a permanent off-street bus exchange in the future.

Following community engagement, feedback analysis will inform the next steps in the project. Public feedback is crucial to help TransLink identify how to best deliver service improvements.
