TransLink launches new Route 80 bus service

Express route will run between River District and Marine Drive Station

VANCOUVER, BC – TransLink is launching Route 80 today, a new express bus route serving the City of Vancouver between the River District and Marine Drive Station.

The launch of Route 80 is being implemented within TransLink's current operating budget thanks to savings through TransLink’s Bus Stop Balancing program, which made service faster and more efficient on several Vancouver bus routes. Making those routes more efficient saved operating costs, which are being reinvested into the system through this new bus route.

Route 80 is expected to serve 400-500 customers per day and will complement service on routes 100 and 31, which currently serve River District customers. This route gives River District residents a new direct connection to and from the Canada Line. The service runs every 30 minutes on weekdays between 6 and 9 a.m., and between 3 and 6 p.m.

TransLink continues seeking new opportunities to balance bus stops on other routes throughout Metro Vancouver, to create savings that can be reinvested into the transit system.

Brad West, Mayors’ Council Chair and Mayor of Port Coquitlam –
“The new route 80 is a great example of how municipalities can work together with TransLink to achieve positive results for the public. Through strategic partnerships, we can continue to improve public transportation throughout the region and move Metro Vancouver toward a sustainable transit system that meets the needs of everyone.”

Ken Sim, Mayor of Vancouver –
“The introduction of fast and frequent bus service connecting the River District with Marine Gateway is an important step forward for transit accessibility in South Vancouver. The Marine Drive corridor is one of the fastest parts of our City – we’re thrilled to have this significant increase in their transit services.”

Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for TransLink –
“We understand the population of the River District is growing and people want expanded transit service in their community. Adding a new express bus route between the River District and Marine Drive Station will give people a fast and reliable option for getting to and from work, school, appointments and other destinations.”

George Chow, MLA for Vancouver–Fraserview –
“Many people in my community rely on public transit. The new #80 Express gives people fast, timely and convenient bus service in South Vancouver, especially during rush hours. Less time spent on commuting means more time spent with friends and family”
