B-Lines are efficient and well-used
TransLink has seen B-Lines successfully adopted in other areas, improving travel times, increasing frequency and reducing crowding for customers.
Vancouver’s 99 B-Line (Broadway)
- Since its launch in 1996, the 99 has become the busiest bus route in Canada and the United States.
- The route has surpassed 61,000 average weekday boardings, which is more than double that of any other route in the region.
- There are more average weekday boardings on the 99 B-Line than on all other routes in Ladner/South Delta/Tsawwassen, Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows, and the Northeast Sector combined.
Surrey’s 96 B-Line (King George Boulevard and 104th Avenue)
- The 96 is the fastest-growing B-Line in the region.
- Ridership has increased by 77 per cent on weekdays and 105 per cent on weekends since it launched in 2013.
- The 96 B-Line has attracted riders from other local bus routes, but has also attracted new riders. Ridership along the corridor as a whole has increased by 41 per cent since 2011.
Burnaby and Vancouver’s 95 B-Line (Hastings Street)
- The 95 is the newest B-Line service. It launched in December, 2016, replacing route 135.
- In fall 2017, this route had 94% of the average daily boardings as compared to the 135 in fall 2016, despite having less than half of the previous stops.
Converting the route into a B-Line with fewer stops has reduced travel time by ten minutes, allowing TransLink to increase frequency while reducing overcrowding.
