Station Access and Safety Project

About the Project
To expand and improve transit service in Metro Vancouver, we’ll be updating our SkyTrain fleet by adding longer, five-car trains that can carry more passengers. More than 200 new Mark V SkyTrain cars are currently in production and are expected to begin arriving in the region late 2023.
We’ll be preparing our current station infrastructure to accommodate the longer trains and more passengers through the SkyTrain Station Access and Safety Project. These necessary upgrades include:
adding a platform gap filler to minimize the gaps between our longer trains and station platforms to assist customers who use wheelchairs/mobility devices,
relocating staff walkways along the SkyTrain tracks,
relocating and increasing the capacity of emergency egress stairs,
relocating some track intrusion monitoring system hardware and that the new, longer trains will block,
adding guideway signage to help stop trains in the correct location when operated manually.
The Station Access and Safety Project is funded in partnership with our provincial and federal governments through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
While all of our Expo and Millennium Line stations will be receiving one or more of these upgrades as needed, we will be working at stations in priority sequence, with the majority of construction expected to be complete in 2026. The majority of work will have no impacts to transit service, however, short periods of single-tracking may be required.
