SkyTrain’s storage, maintenance, and operations control space are at capacity. To unlock SkyTrain’s connection to more communities in Metro Vancouver and expand our train fleet, we’re delivering unprecedented increases in our storage, maintenance, and operational capacity with new facilities and other critical upgrades.
Changes to Services
Reduced service and different platform assignments are currently in effect between Braid and Lougheed Town Centre stations while we rebuild this stretch of track to prepare it to connect to the new facility.
To maintain service for customers throughout construction, we are working on one track at a time, alternating trains in both directions through the remaining open track. Please allow extra travel time and pay attention to directional signs and digital screens to find which platform to catch your train.
We anticipate this work will be completed allowing regular SkyTrain service to resume in summer 2027. Thank you for your patience as we work to enable the expansion of your SkyTrain network.
SkyTrain Facility Projects
New SkyTrain Storage and Maintenance Facility
Expected completion: 2029
Construction of SkyTrain’s newest storage and maintenance facility is underway between Braid and Lougheed SkyTrain stations in Coquitlam. The 27-acre facility will increase SkyTrain’s yard storage capacity by about 60 per cent, and maintenance capacity by about 75 per cent – a much-needed expansion after 40 years of operation. The ground level facility located at 225 North Road will connect to the elevated SkyTrain guideway with a new, 500-metre track, flying above the commercial freight rail yard in between.

North Road Construction
Expected completion: Fall 2026
TransLink will be working along North Road from 225 North Road to just south of Lougheed Highway to bring BC Hydro power and a city watermain to the new storage and maintenance facility site. Work will take place overnight Monday to Friday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and will require temporary lane closures and shifting traffic patterns to keep road users and crews safe throughout construction.
Bidirectional travel will be maintained at all times and emergency vehicles will be given priority to pass through the work zone. Some construction noise related to mechanical excavation, saw-cutting, compaction, truck operations, paving, hammering, and drilling can be expected.

New SkyTrain Operations Control Centre
Expected completion: Summer 2027
We’re building a new state-of-the-art SkyTrain control facility to provide the operational capacity needed to enable SkyTrain’s continued expansion in Metro Vancouver. While the SkyTrain network has quadrupled in size since beginning service in the 1980’s, the small room where staff oversee all its trains, stations, and support systems has not. More than 40 years later, this much-needed standalone facility will provide a modern, expanded space and technological improvements to support current and future network growth.
Edmonds Operations and Maintenance Facility Upgrade
Status: Complete
To bring our new, longer Mark V trains to the region, a much-needed upgrade and expansion of our original operations and maintenance facility near Edmonds Station was completed. While our new Storage and Maintenance Facility in Coquitlam is being built to accommodate these longer trains, our main facility near Edmonds Station was not.
To boost SkyTrain’s current overall storage and maintenance capacity and support new trains, we added a 55,000 square-foot barn with additional longer maintenance bays and more space for rail maintenance equipment. We also extended our vehicle cleaning and inspection facility by 28 metres to be able to house an entire Mark V train.
