Car Free Days of Summer kick off in Surrey
Annual event series starts in Newton on Saturday, June 7

SURREY, BC – Leave the car behind and join thousands across the region for the return of Car Free Days this summer, starting with Car Free Day in Surrey on Saturday, June 7 from noon to 8 p.m. in Newton.
Presented by TransLink, local municipalities, and various Business Improvement Associations, the 2025 Car Free Days series will bring free, all-ages street festivals to various communities across Metro Vancouver.
“We’re so excited to welcome people to experience our neighbourhood on foot this summer, and to help connect everyone to Newton without relying on cars,” says Executive Director of the Newton Business Improvement Association Philip Aguirre. “Events like this bring our community together, support local businesses, and show what’s possible when we prioritize people, connection, and livable streets.”
Now in its fourth year, Car Free Day Surrey kicks off at 137th Street in Newton (between 72A Avenue and 74 Avenue) with a full day of music, dance, food and family-friendly activities, including:
- A Family Zone with a climbing wall, face painting, and other interactive activities.
- An acoustic stage featuring Surrey singer-songwriter Glisha, folk artist Pat Chessell, DJ Seko, dance battles, and much more on the Connect FM Dance Stage.
- A wide variety of food trucks serving up delicious eats.
“This summer, I encourage everyone to get out, explore their neighbourhoods, and enjoy these events by taking transit, walking, or cycling,” says TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “These events are a great way to celebrate local communities, small businesses, and connect with each other.”
Since 2005, Car Free Days have grown into a regional celebration of community, sustainability, and climate action. These events aim to highlight how small changes, like walking, biking, or taking transit, can have a big impact.
