TransLink celebrates Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day
Transit riders can show their support with #ThanksTransit
NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. – TransLink is celebrating 2023 Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day on Saturday, March 18. This is a day dedicated to honouring and appreciating every transit worker that helps to keep Metro Vancouver moving.
The public can participate by sharing messages of gratitude on social media with the hashtag #ThanksTransit and tagging @TransLink.
“The success of our transit system is the result of the hard work of our dedicated employees,” says TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “I want to thank each and every member of our transit family for everything they do to get our customers moving around this region each and every day.”
Officially recognized by the Canadian Urban Transit Association in 2021, Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day was originally inspired by Bus Driver Appreciation Day which began in 2009. March 18th was selected to commemorate the world’s first bus line, which began on that day in 1662 in Paris, France.
TransLink, recently recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers for 2023, employs over 8,000 employees. This includes frontline workers, maintenance crews, mechanics, dispatchers, and many others working behind the scenes.
