Fall service change illustration

Transit Service Changes

As part of Fall Service Changes every September, TransLink adjusts seasonal service on routes serving outdoor destinations that see higher ridership during the warmer summer months. These seasonal adjustments help us direct transit resources where they are needed most, with more service returning to these routes in spring and summer 2027. At the same time, service is increased or restored on routes serving post-secondary institutions to support returning students, faculty, and staff.

In addition to seasonal adjustments, TransLink makes “year-round service changes.” These represent route, schedule, and capacity updates driven by overall network growth and changes in travel patterns. As we deliver on the 2025 Investment Plan, these year-round enhancements aim to improve convenience, extend service hours, reduce overcrowding, and expand service to new areas. We continually monitor ridership levels and demand across the region to ensure transit is reliable, efficient, and aligned with where people need to go every day.

    Service Change Highlights

    Fall Service Change Highlights

We implement service changes every January, April, June, and September to ensure service is provided where it’s needed most based on seasonal patterns and recent trends.

    • Starting on Sept. 7, 2026, TransLink is increasing service on 21 routes across the region, delivering more improvements from the 2025 Investment Plan.

      • This includes the extension of the R2 RapidBus all the way to Metrotown – providing a new frequent, all-day connection between the North Shore, Vancouver, and Burnaby, one of the region’s busiest corridors.

      • TransLink is also introducing a new weekday route serving the Gloucester Industrial Area in Langley. The new route 556 will support businesses and employees in Gloucester and is being introduced a full year ahead of schedule.

      • Service increases are also being introduced on 19 other routes to enhance convenience for customers, reduce overcrowding, and provide more connections to jobs and education.

    • TransLink is adjusting seasonal service to provide more trips on routes serving post-secondary institutions while rolling back service to popular outdoor destinations until spring 2027.

      • With the return of school, more weekday trips are being reinstated on five bus routes serving UBC, SFU, and Capilano University.

      • Seasonal service is being rolled back on 18 routes, and six summer-only routes are being discontinued until 2027.

We will continue monitoring ridership levels across the region to ensure service is provided where it is needed most as more and more people choose transit.

The service change information outlined on this page has also been translated to Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese, which can be found in this PDF document.

    R3 Lougheed Highway

    Year-round Service Changes

With the introduction of the new R2 RapidBus extension to Metrotown and to ensure our fleet of buses is used efficiently across the network, all trips on the R3 will be operated with 40-foot buses instead of 60-foot buses throughout the week.

Because 40-foot buses do not support all-door boarding, customers will be required to board through the front doors only. There are no changes to the R3 schedule.
