Art & Culture Program

TransLink’s Art and Culture Program features both permanent and temporary visual art, as well as performances and music. The program aims to surprise and delight transit customers using the transit system every day. We showcase the remarkable artistic talent in Metro Vancouver and create opportunities for our customers to engage with the fascinating and diverse stories of our region through art and culture.

In partnership with TransLink’s Indigenous Relations team, we run TransLink’s local Indigenous art program to bring artwork by host Nations’ artists to the transit system.

Background

Prior to the founding of the Art and Culture Program in 2013, permanent artwork could be found at some SkyTrain stations after the opening of the Millennium Line in 2003. The Public Art Program emerged in 2013 when TransLink began commissioning both temporary and permanent artwork as part of the Expo Line upgrade program.

Since then, TransLink has continued working with artists to develop and install inspiring and innovative artworks, including the launch of a local Indigenous art program to honour and celebrate the work of artists from local Indigenous Nations. In 2021, TransLink revamped the Art and Culture Program by incorporating both the Buskers and Poetry in Transit initiatives into a revamped Art and Culture Program and by launching Art Moves, an initiative designed to highlight music and performance in Metro Vancouver.
