This Earth Day, take Transit for the Planet

Earth Day is Saturday, April 22

How you choose to move around the region matters. On Earth Day (Saturday, April 22), we’re calling on all of Metro Vancouver to Transit for the Planet! Choosing public transit over driving is one of the most effective ways to reduce your environmental footprint – along with walking and cycling, of course.

In one year, TransLink customers collectively save 307,000 tonnes of GHGs by not driving a car.

Let’s make moves to tackle climate change together. Share how you’re taking #Transit4ThePlanet when you take the bus, SkyTrain, SeaBus, or West Coast Express this Earth Day.

Did you know?

A trip on an electric bus or SkyTrain reduces GHGs by over 99% compared to driving. Driving is the largest source of GHGs in the region: by choosing transit, you’re taking one of the biggest steps to reduce your carbon footprint.

What can you do this Earth Day?

  1. Take Transit for the Planet! Plan your route with Trip Planner today.

  2. Share your pledge to take transit and to help the environment by using the hashtag #transit4theplanet.

  3. Say hello to our teams who are handing out wildflower seeds at key transit hubs from April 17 to 21.

Do you cycle? We have bike parkades and lockers at key transit hubs. Find out how to make cycling part of your Earth Day journey.

TransLink is Taking Action on Climate Change

As part of the Climate Action Strategy, we are aiming for net-zero GHG emissions in our operations, fleet, and facilities by 2050. We’ll have 155 new battery-electric buses in service by 2025 and moving our compressed natural gas bus fleet to 100% renewable energy by 2024. This is on top of our all-electric trolley-bus and SkyTrain fleet.

Learn more about our commitment to sustainability and all our climate action goals.

We’re also working to support climate action in regional transportation through Transport 2050, in partnership with other levels of government.

We’re Also Helping Employers Take Action on Climate Change

We’re launching the Commutifi Program, a data-driven platform to help organizations measure, understand, and reduce the impact of their employees’ commutes.

Our Transit-Friendly Employer program recognizes organizations doing their part by providing a 50% subsidy for transit passes. Join our growing coalition of leading organizations who are making employee travel easy, affordable, and climate friendly.
