Rapid Transit Projects

Rapid transit systems feature high-capacity vehicles, priority over general traffic, and fast, frequent, and reliable service beyond what is achieved with conventional transit. Metro Vancouver's rapid transit system currently includes the Expo, Millennium, and Canada Lines. While these are all Rail Rapid Transit (RRT) lines, other forms of rapid transit, like Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and Light Rail Transit (LRT) are being explored to meet the region’s diverse transportation needs.

The Burnaby Mountain Gondola also remains a promising candidate for consideration in future expansion plans.

The Evergreen Extension opened Dec. 2 connecting Coquitlam to Vancouver via Port Moody and Burnaby. We're also advancing work on the Millennium Line Broadway Extension and the South of Fraser Rapid Transit Project (Surrey–Newton–Guildford LRT), as identified in the Mayors' Council Vision.
