Transit On-Demand Pilot Program – Bowen Island

The future of transit starts with you.

We need your help testing the future of Transit On-Demand services in our region. Between July 15 and Sept. 15, TransLink will pilot a new app-based service on Bowen Island and everyone is invited to participate.

Transit On-Demand will supplement existing bus routes on Bowen Island, not replace them. Two additional shuttle buses wrapped in white with colourful circles will operate on Bowen Island to provide Transit On-Demand service. The 280, 281 and 282 bus routes will not be affected and will continue to provide regular transit service.

Using the TapRide app, Transit On-Demand service will get you home on weekday evenings and anywhere you want on weekends (within the service zone). Trips can be booked two weeks in advance.

Weekday Evenings: Fixed pick-up from Snug Cove from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Weekends: Flexible pick-up and drop-off anytime between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Pilot participants can take advantage of Transit On-Demand benefits, including:

  • Increased reliability through tracking On-Demand buses in real-time;
  • Extended service hours on weekday evenings; and
  • Expanded service coverage, including Cowan’s Point and Cates Hill.
