Expo Line Running Rail Replacement

Worker replacing running rail on SkyTrain

As part of our commitment to keeping the system in a state of good repair, over the next 8 to 10 years we'll be replacing approximately 5,000 metres of running rail annually.

In 2017, the running rail replacement project replaced approximately 5,000 metres of rail at 4 main locations close to Metrotown, Main Street–Science World, Stadium–Chinatown, and Waterfront stations.

Ongoing Rail Replacement

From summer 2018 to spring 2019, we expect to replace 6,000 linear metres of running rail and 11,000 rail pads in the Dunsmuir Tunnel between Stadium-Chinatown and Waterfront stations, and by Main Street-Science World Station. Crews will work in the Dunsmuir Tunnel from June 24 until late-2018 then move to Main Street-Science World Station.

Know before you go – this work will require single tracking and changes to regular operating patterns. For up-to-date information on what this means for your commute, please visit our Alerts page.
