Canada Line Escalator Enhancement Project

Illustration of people using an escalator at a SkyTrain station

As part of TransLink's Maintenance and Repair Program, we're adding new escalators to Yaletown–Roundhouse Station, Vancouver City Centre Station, and Waterfront Station to get ready for expanded service on the Canada Line and address growing customer demand.

This critical investment into the system will enhance the customer experience well into the future.

Passengers on our transit system deserve the best customer experience possible. This means a seamless transition between modes and reliable escalator service to move through our stations.

This is another example of the investments we're making across the system to improve the customer experience. As part of the Public Transportation Infrastructure Fund, the Government of Canada, Government of B.C and region is investing $35 million in Canada Line system and stations upgrades.

We anticipate that this project will be completed by fall 2019.

We encourage customers to visit our Alerts page for information on service impacts.

What you need to know:

The stations will remain open, but customers should allow for extra travel time.

October 15-18, 2019 – No entry to Canada Line at Waterfront Station

  • We’re adding a new escalator down to Canada Line at Waterfront Station to improve customer flow.
  • To install the new escalator, the contractor needs to close access to the staircase down to the Canada Line.
  • The elevator will still be operational for customers with accessibility challenges and people with luggage.
  • All other Canada Line customers can access the line one of two ways:
    • Customers travelling westbound to Waterfront on the Expo Line can exit at Granville Station, walk half a block to Vancouver City Centre Station to get on the Canada Line.
    • Customers can enter Waterfront Station at the south entrance on Granville Street at W. Hastings and board a Canada Line train there.
  • Customers on the Canada Line exiting at Waterfront Station can still use the “up” escalator as usual.

We thank all our passengers for their patience while we complete this important project.
