Regional Transportation Strategy

Our current long-term strategy, the Regional Transportation Strategy (RTS) Strategic Framework, developed in 2013, sets out the vision, goals, principles, strategies, and key initiatives to help guide transportation decisions in Metro Vancouver over the next 30 years.

Priority actions for the first part of that period are detailed in the 10-Year Vision, which was developed by the Mayors' Council in 2014. The initiatives set out in the 10-Year Vision are being delivered in several phases as funding becomes available.

The Phase 1 Investment Plan was approved in Nov. 2016 and began implementation in 2017. The Phase 2 Investment Plan is set to be approved on June 28, 2018.

We're required by legislation to update the RTS every five years. The current RTS was adopted in 2013 and is therefore due to be updated by Aug. 1, 2018.

As we turn our attention to the next 30 years, we want to have a region-wide conversation about what the future looks like and how we can position the region for success. To allow the necessary time to provide a more comprehensive update to the RTS, we're proposing to meet the legislative deadline of Aug. 1, 2018 by re-adopting the 2013 RTS.

Opportunities for you to participate in the more comprehensive update process will be coming later in 2018. Stay tuned!
