2017 Transit Service Performance Review

TransLink manages Metro Vancouver’s integrated regional transit network and regularly reviews and modifies transit service to promote system efficiency and effectiveness. Our focus is on improving the customer experience and increasing ridership by maximizing the use of resources.

The 2017 Transit Service Performance Review (TSPR) is a comprehensive review of ridership, cost, utilization, and reliability for bus, SeaBus, SkyTrain, and West Coast Express. It informs the management of our integrated regional transit network and guides decision-making regarding the allocation of transit service resources.

From 2016 to 2017 ridership across the system continued to grow:

  • System-wide boardings increased 5.7% to a record 407 million
  • Bus boardings increased by 3.2%
  • SeaBus boardings increased by 7.3%
  • SkyTrain boardings increased by 12.0%
  • West Coast Express boardings decreased by 5.5%

The 2017 TSPR is the first system-wide assessment since we began implementing the Phase One service improvements and after opening the Evergreen Extension in December 2016. As these service improvements are rolled out, this and future TSPRs will summarize the impact on ridership, cost, utilization, and reliability measures.
