BC Parkway

The BC Parkway is a 26-kilometre, multi-use path that roughly parallels the Expo SkyTrain Line, connecting Surrey City Centre, New Westminster, South Burnaby, and Vancouver.

BC Parkway & Central Valley Greenway Map

With the development of transit oriented neighbourhoods around SkyTrain stations, the BC Parkway is an increasingly important facility for walking and wheeling (pedestrians, commuter and recreational cyclists, wheelchair users, in-line skating, and so on).

We have a conceptual design report for improvements to the BC Parkway. This provides guidance for the BC Parkway upgrade process and will be used to prioritize improvements.

BC Parkway Renovation Work

As part of our ongoing investment in cycling infrastructure, we’ll be upgrading the pavement and curbs at select locations along the BC Parkway from fall 2019 until summer 2020. This work is being completed as part of the TransLink Maintenance and Repair Program.

  • Upgrades will take place
    • From London Street to 23rd Street in New Westminster
    • Along Prenter Street, from Buller to Irmin in Burnaby
    • Along Beresford Street, from MacPherson to Buller in Burnaby
  • To ensure the safety of all BC Parkway users, detours will be in place while construction crews are working.

Construction and detour information

Burnaby

  • A portion of BC Parkway along Prenter Street between Irmin Street and Buller Avenue will be closed for upgrades from January through April 2020.
    • Parkway users should follow detour signs along Rumble Street and Buller Avenue and allow a few minutes extra for their commute.

New Westminster

  • Work between London Street and 23rd Street in New Westminster began November 2019 and is expected to complete in January 2020.
  • Parkway users can detour through the 23rd Street and London Street intersection. Cyclists should add a few extra minutes to their commute.

Improving and maintaining infrastructure on the BC Parkway is a key part of our goal to make cycling a more convenient transportation option, promoting a more livable region. We thank everyone for their patience while this work is done.
