Monthly Pass

You can buy a calendar Monthly Pass for 1, 2, or 3 zone travel by bus, SeaBus, and SkyTrain services. All bus travel is a 1-Zone fare. Passes for West Coast Express must be purchased separately as they are priced differently.

Buying a Monthly Pass

In order to load a Monthly Pass, you need to have a Compass Card. Monthly Passes are transferrable and valid for an entire calendar month. Visit our Where to Buy page for information on where to get a Compass Card, and how to load it with the fare product of your choice.

You can pre-purchase your next month's pass through all channels (online, at a Compass Vending Machine, by phone or in person) starting on the 20th of each month until the 15th of the next. You can purchase a Monthly Pass at any time online. Your credit card will be charged at the time of purchase, and passes are activated the first time you tap during the pass period for which your pass is valid (typically on the first of the month). Monthly Passes are not pro-rated for purchase at any point.

Register your Compass Card!

Unlimited Travel

Monthly Passes provide unlimited travel on SkyTrain and SeaBus within the number of zones purchased. Monthly Pass holders must still tap in/out on rail and SeaBus to ensure they're charged the correct fare. A Monthly Pass of any kind provides unlimited travel on buses at any time, and across all zones on all modes on weekends, statutory holidays, and after 6:30 p.m. on weekday evenings.

Fare Upgrades

If you have a 1- or 2-Zone Monthly Pass on your Compass Card, but need to travel through extra zones on rail or SeaBus, just load Stored Value onto your Compass Card in advance of your trip and your upgrades will be seamless. Compass will deduct the correct amount for your trip when you tap out.

1-Zone $1.25 $2.75
2-Zone $0.00 $1.50

Upgrades for West Coast Express

Compass customers travelling on a Monthly Pass receive a 1-Zone credit towards a West Coast Express trip ($2.85 for a one-zone Adult Monthly Pass and $1.80 for a concession product). Make sure you have enough Stored Value on your Compass Card before you travel to cover the cost of your West Coast Express trip.

Remember to Tap!

Remember to tap in/out on rail and SeaBus. When you tap in, the system reserves a 3-Zone fare. When you tap out, it calculates the correct fare and credits the difference back onto your card. If you forget to tap out and are travelling on a 1- or 2-Zone Monthly Pass, Compass automatically charges a 3-Zone journey. If you don't have Stored Value on your card, the additional charge will result a negative balance and you won't be able to use your Monthly Pass again until you have at least a $0.01 on your card ($4.50 for West Coast Express customers). Be sure to tap in/out on rail/SeaBus, so you're charged the correct fare. You don't need to tap out on buses.

Federal Tax Credit

Remember to register your Compass Card to keep a record of your transactions and travel history, you could be eligible for a Federal Tax Credit. Visit for more details. Credit is valid for the period of January 2017 to June 2017.
