TransLink to host Rail~Volution's Canadian debut

August 20, 2019

Major conference bringing transportation influencers to Metro Vancouver

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC — TransLink will host Rail~Volution 2019, a conference bringing over a thousand world leaders in transportation and community development to Canada for the first time.

From September 8 to 11, the Rail~Volution conference will focus on a range of topics including transit expansion, ride hailing, housing affordability, equitable development, city planning, mobility options, and more. The Rail~Volution Conference will bring together international industry experts, influencers, and thought-leaders to focus on creating more livable communities through transit.

“Metro Vancouver is excited about transportation now more than ever,” says TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond. “Rail~Volution is an incredible opportunity to showcase our region’s accomplishments, to hear unique perspectives from around the globe, and to help inspire ideas to improve our transportation system.”

The Local Host Committee is co-chaired by TransLink and IBI Group – a global architecture, engineering, planning, and technology firm. Attendees of Rail~Volution will hear about the ways that cities around the world combine high-capacity transit with robust development. Unique from similar conferences, Rail~Volution puts dual emphasis on transportation and community development through hosting speakers with wide-ranging expertise.

Notable speakers include:

Speakers Topic
Diana Zhou (Hyperloop One) Tube-based, 1000 kilometre per hour transit
Jay Pitter (Author and Placemaker) City planning in an age of hyper-diversity
Chris Pangilinan (Uber) Ride Hailing and public transit partnerships
Caroline Samponaro (Lyft) Micromobility policy, ride-hailing
Lisa Bender (Minneapolis City Council) Eliminating single-family zoning

“Metro Vancouver was an obvious choice for Rail~Volution’s 25th anniversary,” says Rail~Volution CEO Dan Bartholomay. “We’re so excited to bring over a thousand of the world’s leaders in transportation and community development to a very dynamic transit-oriented region. Coming to Canada brings Rail~Volution to a whole new landscape of people who are excited to engage about how we live.”

“We are happy to be the co-hosts with TransLink for Rail~Volution’s first conference held outside of the USA,” says IBI Group Director, Gary Andrishak. “Vancouver will be a great forum to discuss how transit-oriented development must evolve to meet the challenges of 21st century urban living — affordable housing, social equity, and climate change.”
