More Bus Service Coming To Metro Vancouver September 3

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC — Fall bus service changes are allowing TransLink to reduce overcrowding, cut wait times, create better connections throughout the existing network, and bring service to new areas. More than 100 more bus trips with space for over 6,000 boardings per day are being spread out across Metro Vancouver.

  • Over 20 routes across the region are receiving improvements thanks to funding from the Mayors’ Council’s 10-Year Vision. Nearly 250,000 annual bus service hours have been added as part of the 10-Year Vision since January, 2017.
  • Several routes are improving as part of the updated Southwest Area Transport Plan. This document sets future transportation priorities for Richmond, South Delta and the Tsawwassen First Nation.
  • Seasonal service adjustments are going in place to accommodate post-secondary students.

Ridership here is growing faster than anywhere else in North America and this is due in part to the fast paced roll out of new service in places that need it most.” according to TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond. “We are making taking transit easier and more comfortable and that’s attracting new customers. I hope these new bus service hours will allow the trend to continue.”

TransLink is reminding SFU students about the platform change at Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain Station that occurred on June 25. Millennium Line trains at Lougheed Station now use different platforms, so trains can proceed more directly and efficiently through the station, resulting in a faster and more reliable trip for riders. Customers should follow station signage to ensure they are standing on the correct platform to catch a Millennium Line train.
