Scott Road Station safer and more accessible

May 21, 2014

Upgrades to station and bus exchange now complete

SURREY – The Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, P.C., Q.C., Minister of National Revenue and MP for Delta—Richmond East was joined today by B.C.’s Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone, and TransLink board chair Marcella Szel to mark completion of the accessibility and safety upgrades at the Scott Road SkyTrain Station.

Thanks to the recent upgrades to the bus exchange and parking lot completed over the last year, station access is safer and easier for customers who travel by car and bus. Accessibility has also been markedly improved following the installation of the elevator at the west-side of the station in the spring of 2012.

The completed upgrades are the result of a successful partnership between the Government of Canada, the Government of British Columbia and TransLink, working to improve access to transit throughout the region.

The cost of the Scott Road Station upgrades was $6.9 million, of which $2.02 million was provided by the Government of Canada through the Building Canada Fund, $4 million from the Government of British Columbia, and the remainder was provided by TransLink.

Scott Road Station is the first of seven stations on the Expo Line to be upgraded by TransLink with funding from the federal and provincial governments. These upgrades will ensure the rapid transit system meets the needs of passengers and the region for years to come.

The Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Minister of National Revenue
“Our Government is pleased to have invested in upgrades at the Scott Road Station that will make the SkyTrain system safer and more user-friendly. We have made significant investments in public transit across the Lower Mainland, while creating jobs and economic growth in the region.”

Todd Stone, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure
“The government of B.C. is pleased to work in partnership with the Government of Canada and TransLink to meet the demands of Metro Vancouver’s growing population. Safe and reliable infrastructure is the backbone of a robust and vibrant region. The upgrades at Scott Road Station improve safety and accessibility for TransLink passengers and adds to Vancouver’s world-class transportation system.”

Marcella Szel, Board Chair, TransLink
“The upgrades at Scott Road Station and future upgrades to Surrey-Central Station help us improve connections to public transit in one of the fastest growing parts of the region. They allow us to continue meeting the needs of the thousands of customers who use the station daily and the additional 300,000 people that are expected in Surrey between now and 2046.”
