2010 Winter Games Information

Part of Vancouver's commitment to hosting the 2010 Winter Games is the pledge to reduce environmental impacts while hosting the world. Transit is an environmentally friendly way to travel, but walking or cycling is also a great way to get around and reduce your carbon footprint during the Games.

Good for Your Wallet.
Good for Your Waistline.

Vancouver’s mild climate means residents can enjoy the benefits of active transportation year-round. Cycling, walking, rollerblading and skateboarding are all healthy, sustainable modes of transportation that are not only good for your wallet and your waistline, but the environment too.

Cycling
If your destination is less than five kilometers away, cycling can often get you there in the same amount of time as driving, without the hassles of parking. Why not stay fit by cycling to work? TransLink’s bike-friendly transit system makes getting around town with your bike fast and easy!

Find cycling routes in your community or take your bike on transit.
Get pedaling!

Walking

Walking is another great way to burn calories and enjoy the fresh air, and the best part is – it’s free! You can walk your kids to school, pick up a few groceries or just explore your neighbourhood. Walking is low-impact, requires no special equipment, increases HDL (the good cholesterol), lowers stress, improves sleep and can be done anywhere, anytime!
