Transit Service for the Vancouver Sun Run - April 21

 

More than 48,000 people are expected to participate in the Vancouver Sun Run on Sunday, April 21, 2013 and TransLink has extended transit services to accommodate the increase in ridership before and after the race.

 

SkyTrain

Expo/Millennium Lines will start service 30 mins earlier than normal with the first train leaving King George Station at 6:38 a.m. and Lougheed Station at 6:45 a.m. SkyTrain will also operate "rush hour" level service prior to the start of the race and also in the afternoon, as crowds are heading home.

Canada Line will start at its regular time of 5:05 a.m. and will provide additional service for crowds headed downtown in the morning.

Bus

Buses will run on their regular Sunday schedules but with a number of re-routes in effect, diverting away from the Sun Run race route in the West End, Burrard Bridge and 2nd Avenue in Kitsilano. Buses that normally use Georgia will travel along Pender between Cardero and Richards.

West Vancouver Blue Bus will also provide its regular Sunday service, with additional service in the morning from 25th and Marine and extra buses available after the run.

SeaBus

SeaBus will start one hour earlier than normal with the first sailing leaving Lonsdale Quay at 7 a.m. and sailings every 15-minutes until 3 p.m.

West Coast Express

West Coast Express will operate a special Sun Run Train. The West Coast Express Sun Run Train will depart Mission City Station at 7 a.m. for the trip into downtown Vancouver and will leave Waterfront Station at 1 p.m. for the return trip home. 

April 21, 2013 Sun Run Express Departure Schedule:

  • Mission City: 7:00 a.m.
  • Port Haney: 7:19 a.m.
  • Maple Meadows: 7:25 a.m.
  • Pitt Meadows Station: 7:29 a.m.
  • Port Coquitlam: 7:39 a.m.
  • Coquitlam Central: 7:45 a.m.
  • Port Moody: 7:50 a.m.
  • Waterfront Station Arrival: 8:15 a.m.

Cycling

TravelSmart is sponsoring BEST's Bicycle Valet which offers secure temporary bike storage for up to 150 bikes, free of charge. The Bicycle Valet will be located at Gate F, on the second level of BC Place, near the finish line. Cyclists are reminded that due to crowding and safety concerns, they may not be able to take their bikes on SkyTrain until the crowds have cleared.

Pre-purchase Return Tickets

Avoid lineups at ticket vending machines and buy your return tickets en route to the Vancouver Sun Run.

 

Portable fareboxes will be at the following stations: King George, Burrard, Granville, Bridgeport and Vancouver City Centre.

 

Fareboxes will also be set up at Stadium-Chinatown for up to an hour after the event to help ease lineups at TVMs. Fareboxes only accept exact cash fare and tickets are valid until late afternoon on Sunday, April 21st.
