2010 Winter Games Information

Some bus routes may change during the 2010 Games due to road closures and other impacts. There will be extra bus services, but you should prepare for delays and plan your travel in advance.

February Bus Re-Routes

Many bus routes will be revised to accommodate road closures for 2010 Games venue security zones, pedestrian corridors and celebration sites. Some re-routes near UBC will continue through the Paralympic Games to late-March.

Bus re-route dates listed below may be subject to change if road closure dates are revised. Any updates will be posted on this site.

Re-routes in downtown Vancouver (for Robson St, Granville St and Mainland/Hamilton St pedestrian corridors; plus BC Place & Canada Hockey Place venue security zones)

5 Downtown/Robson

6 Davie/Downtown

Effective February 1 – March 2. #5 “Downtown” trips will be re-routed off of Robson in the downtown core, travelling from Robson @ Thurlow via Thurlow, Smithe, Burrard, Pender, Homer and Hastings. Interlined #6 “Davie” trips will begin from Richards @ Hastings.

Effective February 1 – March 2. #5 “Robson” trips will be-routed to travel from Richards @ Hastings via Richards, Pender and Burrard before returning to regular routing along Robson. There are no changes to the routing for interlined #6 “Downtown” trips.

15 Cambie/Downtown

N15 Cambie/Downtown NightBus

Effective February 1 - March 2. “Downtown” (northbound) trips will travel to Seymour via Smithe instead of Robson. “Cambie” trips will travel southbound in the downtown core via Richards St instead of Cambie St.

Effective February 10, 12, 28 and March 12 only. Cambie Bridge closed noon - midnight. No #15 service into downtown during these hours. #15 northbound trips will be re-routed for passenger drop-offs only (no pick-ups), turning west from Cambie onto Broadway, then north on Willow, east on 6th Ave, and south on Cambie to 7th Ave terminus. Southbound trips will begin on Cambie at Broadway (near Canada Line's Broadway - City Hall Station) with regular passenger pick-up/drop-off points.

17 Downtown/UBC

Effective February 1 - March 2. Will travel into downtown only as far as Davie Street.

50 Waterfront Station/False Creek South

Effective January 19 – March 2, will be re-routed off of Granville (back onto Seymour northbound and Howe southbound) south of Robson.

Effective January 19 – March 2, will travel via Pender instead of Keefer between Abbott and Columbia.

North Vancouver bus terminus in downtown Vancouver

Effective February 1 - 28. Routes 240, 241, 242, 246, 247 to Vancouver will terminate at a new stop on Georgia eastbound between Cambie and Hamilton, instead of the current stop on Cambie. Trips to the North Shore for these routes will depart from this same point on Georgia. A minor downtown re-routing for trips to the North Shore will not affect any other stops.

C21 Yaletown/Beach/Burrard Station

C23 Davie/Yaletown-Roundhouse Station

Effective January 25 - February 28. No service east of Yaletown-Roundhouse Station. Customers wishing to access Main Street – Science World Station can use SkyTrain’s Canada Line (Yaletown-Roundhouse Station to Waterfront Station) and Expo/Millennium Line (Waterfront to Main Street – Science World Station).

Effective March 1 - 13.  C21/C23 service will resume between Yaletown-Roundhouse and Main Street - Science World via a temporary alternate route using Pacific Blvd, Cambie, Pender, Abbott and Keefer, with regular routing between Quebec and Main Street Station.

N6 Downtown NightBus

Effective February 1 – March 2. Re-routed in downtown core off of Robson starting at Thurlow, travelling instead via Thurlow, Smithe, Burrard, Pender, Homer, Hastings and Richards to terminus on Dunsmuir. Note: no change for N6 “West End” trips.

N8 Fraser NightBus

Effective February 1 - March 2. Will not stop on Seymour near Robson. Board on Seymour at Dunsmuir. Note: no change to N8 “Downtown” trips.

N24 Upper Lonsdale/Lonsdale Quay/Downtown NightBus

Effective February 1 - 28. “Downtown” trips will end on Georgia at Cambie. “Upper Lonsdale/Lonsdale Quay” trips will be re-routed in downtown Vancouver, travelling from Georgia at Cambie via Georgia, Cambie, Smithe and Homer before resuming regular routing westbound on Georgia to Stanley Park Causeway.

Re-route near Vancouver Olympic Centre

33 29th Avenue Station/UBC

Effective February 1 – March 2. Re-routed between Main & East 33rd Ave and King Edward Station (Cambie at King Edward Avenue), travelling via Main and King Edward instead of East 33rd, Midlothian, West 29th Ave and Cambie.

Re-routes near University of British Columbia (UBC)

25 Brentwood Station/UBC

33 29th Avenue Station/UBC

Effective February 1 – March 21. Re-routed off of Wesbrook Mall and off of West 16th Ave west of Blanca, travelling instead via University Boulevard and Blanca.

41 Joyce Station/UBC

43 Joyce Station/UBC

49 Metrotown Station/UBC

480 Richmond-Brighouse Station/UBC

Effective February 1 – March 21. Re-routed off of Wesbrook Mall south of UBC Loop and off of West 16th Avenue. As a result, there will be no transit service to TRIUMF. Will travel instead via SW Marine, NW Marine and the section of Wesbrook north of UBC Loop. Note: there are no stops along the SW Marine/NW Marine re-route section.

C20 Marine Drive

Effective January 25 – March 28. Re-routed to travel from UBC Loop via University Boulevard and East Mall to Thunderbird Boulevard.

C22 Hampton Place/UBC Loop

Effective February 1 – March 21. Re-routed to travel to Hampton Place via University Blvd, East Mall and W. 16th Ave. Then travels to Osoyoos Crescent via the local fire station roadway instead of Wesbrook Mall and Fairview Avenue.

N16 Renfrew Nightbus

Stop discontinued northbound on Renfrew at Pender.  Use stop around the corner, westbound on Hastings at Renfrew instead.

N16 Renfrew Nightbus

Effective January 25 - March 1. Will not stop on McGill eastbound at North Slocan. Will not travel via North Renfrew Street. Re-routed around Hastings Park via McGill, Bridgeway and East Hastings to Renfrew Street.

Effective January 25 – March 5. From Surrey Central Station, these routes will return to King George Highway east along 102 Ave (instead of west 102 Ave, south 134A St and east Old Yale Rd).

Re-routes in Richmond

405 Five Road

Effective February 1 - March 1. One bus stop discontinues, on No. 5 Road at Riverside Way.

C94 Richmond Oval/Richmond-Brighouse Station

Effective February 1 – March 1. No service via Hollybridge Way, River Road or Lynas Lane. Will travel instead via Elmbridge Way to Westminster Hwy and then return eastbound toward Richmond-Brighouse Station.

Temporary improvements to existing transit services

SkyTrain Expo & Millennium Lines

Additional service Feb 12 – 28

Expo Line & Millennium Line service will start according to regular Mon-Fri schedules on all days, including weekends. Late-night service will also be extended. Trains will run more often in the periods before and after major events to accommodate more passengers. In total, peak service during the Games will be 30% above 2009 levels.

SkyTrain Canada Line

Additional service Feb 12 – 28

Normal hours of operation. More frequent service throughout weekdays and weekday evenings to accommodate increased ridership. Additional trains will be available for use on weekends and to support the major events at Olympic venues.

West Coast Express

Additional service Feb 12 – 28

Mon-Fri, additional westbound midday trains and eastbound evening trains.

Weekends, westbound afternoon trains and eastbound evening trains.

SeaBus

Additional service Feb 8 – 28

Service from 6 a.m. – 2:15 a.m. all days

Ferries every 10 minutes between 10:00 a.m. – midnight

Buses

Increases in service for specific bus routes are listed below. In addition, “on-demand” buses will provide additional capacity as needed on busy routes throughout the region.  Bus improvements listed below are effective February 1 - 28.

16 Arbutus/29th Avenue Station

More frequent midday service, every 12 minutes Mon-Fri 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Sat 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

84 VCC-Clark Station/UBC

Evening service extended to 11:00 p.m. each day.

239 Park Royal/Lonsdale Quay/Phibbs Exchange/Capilano University

Service improved to every 10 minutes, Mon-Fri 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

106 Metrotown Station/New Westminster Station

112 Edmonds Station/New Westminster Station

123 Brentwood Station/New Westminster Station

130 Metrotown Station/Hastings/Kootenay Loop

319 Scott Road Station/Newton Exchange

320 Surrey Central Station/Langley Centre

Additional trip from Bridgeport Station at 11:03 p.m. to connect with the midnight ferry leaving Tsawwassen (to Swartz Bay).

N9 Coquitlam Station/Downtown NightBus

Extended hours of service, with buses every 30 minutes throughout the overnight period. Note: during extended service hours, N24 trips operate only between Lonsdale Quay and downtown. N24 trips to the North Shore will be re-routed in downtown Vancouver.

Special express and accessible services for Olympic events only

Games Express to Coliseum/29th Avenue Station

Express buses between 29th Avenue Station (SkyTrain Expo/Millennium Line) and the Pacific Coliseum venue stop, only for events at Pacific Coliseum. Stops at Renfrew Station (Millennium Line) for pick-ups only northbound (toward Coliseum) and drop-offs only southbound (toward 29th Avenue Station).

North Vancouver Games Express to Coliseum/Phibbs Exchange

Express buses between Phibbs Exchange in North Vancouver and the Pacific Coliseum venue stop, only for events at Pacific Coliseum.

Vancouver Olympic Centre Accessible Special

Shuttle bus service only at event times, only for passengers requiring assistance, between Bay 1 at King Edward Station (Canada Line) and the Vancouver Olympic Centre at Hillcrest Park.

Richmond Oval Accessible Special

Shuttle bus service only at event times, only for passengers requiring assistance, between Bay 12 at Bridgeport Station (Canada Line) and Richmond Oval.

Thunderbird Arena Accessible Special

Shuttle bus service only at event times, only for passengers requiring assistance, between Bay 15 at the University of British Columbia (UBC) bus loop and UBC Thunderbird Arena.

Olympic Line streetcar

Streetcar demonstration service, January 21 – March 21, operated by the City of Vancouver and Bombardier Transportation. Free service runs between Granville Island and Canada Line’s Olympic Village Station, 18 hours per day (6:30 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.). Although not a TransLink service, the Olympic Line streetcar is included in TransLink’s online trip planner.
