Canada Line Track Maintenance:

To perform some track work maintenance, alternate train service will be implemented. The impact to passenger will be as follows:

Single track service and single platform loading will be in effect between Waterfront and King Edward Stations.  Staff will be available at all affected stations to assist passengers with the single platform loading/unloading.

Two trains, one bound for YVR-Airport, and the other for Richmond-Brighouse, will depart Waterfront Station approximately 2 minutes apart from each other, every 30 minutes.  To minimize the effect of this work on our passengers, and to bring down the effective headway, a 2-train loop service will be in place between Bridgeport and YVR-Airport Stations, as well as between Bridgeport and Richmond-Brighouse Station.  A shuttle train will also be in place between Waterfront and Olympic Village Stations.

The effective headways during this work are:

Olympic Village – Bridgeport – 30 minutes
Waterfront – Olympic Village – 15 minutes
YVR-Airport/Richmond-Brighouse – Bridgeport – 15 minutes 

The last outbound trains will depart stations approximately 5 minutes later than normal scheduled times.

Stop 50976 Eastbound W Georgia St at Granville St has been temporarily cancelled and replaced with stop 61662 on the other side of Granville St.

To accommodate Faregate construction at 29th Avenue Station, the westbound “33 UBC” service will temporarily no longer stop near the stairs at Bay 1 stop 58493. Customers will be required to board the “33 UBC” northeast of the current Bay 1 at a temporary Bay 5 stop 61616.

This change will remain in place until such time the construction associated with the installation of the faregates have been completed and the “33 UBC” can return to its permanent location near the stairs at 29th Avenue Station Bay 1 stop 58493.

Effective Monday April 23rd, 2012 until further notice.

To accommodate continued Faregate construction at Surrey Central Station, the following temporary bay changes will take place:

• Bay 1 will be CLOSED. This “Unloading Bay” will be relocated to Bay 2.
• Bay 2 (stop 55210) will be used as a temporary “Unloading Bay". The 320 service will be relocated to Bay 3 (stop 55836).
• Bay 3 (stop 55836) will be used as the temporary 320 Bay. The 332 Guildford/335 Fleetwood service will be relocated to temporary Bay 14 (stop 61677) Northbound on University Dr.
• Bay 9 (stop 55070) will be used as the temporary full time Bay for the 321 White Rock/Newton Ex.
• Bay 10 (stop 55441) will be CLOSED – all 321 service relocated to Bay 9.
• Bay 14 (stop 61677) will be used as the temporary 332 Guildford/335 Fleetwood Bay Northbound on University Dr.

These changes will remain in place until such time the construction associated with the installation of the faregates have been completed and the buses can return to their permanent locations.

Effective Tuesday April 3rd, 2012 until further notice.

To accommodate faregate construction at the southwest entrance at Joyce-Collingwood Station, the 28 Phibbs Exchange Bus will no longer stop at Bus Bay #1 and will be relocated to the re-opened Bus Bay #4.

Passengers may board the 28 Phibbs Exchange at Bus Bay #4 at the north side of the station.

This will result in a reduction of TVMs to a total of four.

Signage has been placed around the construction site to direct passengers to and from the terminal entrance and around the construction site.

Some areas in Burnaby will have shelters removed temporarily while the City of Burnaby makes arrangements to replace them at 32 different locations.

Inquiries on the specifics of the shelter removals and reinstallations may be directed to the City of Burnaby.

Bay 4 at the Joyce/Collingwood Station will be closed due to construction. The 41 UBC will depart from the new Bay 6 located east of Joyce St on Vaness Ave.

Due to station construction, transit at Scott Road Station will operate from a new, temporary exchange. The temporary exchange, immediately north of the existing exchange, will feature seven bays. Bay assignments will be revised, as per the diagram below.

Due to station renovations for the TransLink Compass card and Faregate project, the westbound elevator at Gilmore Station will only be operating from concourse level to the platform level.

Passengers requiring access to/from street level will have to take the eastbound elevator from concourse level to street level.

Passengers may enter the station via the existing northwest or west entrances (on Vanness Avenue, elevator accessible) or the temporary east entrance located near the new Bus Bay #6 (on Joyce Street).

To accomodate Faregate construction the Kiss & Ride is closed. Passengers may no longer use this area as a drop-off/pick-up location. All parking stalls in this area will also be closed.

Passengers may enter the station via the new south entrance (elevator accessible) or the temporary west ramp entrance (on Patterson Avenue).

Passengers wishing to travel westbound from New Westminster, please take an eastbound train to Columbia and at Columbia Station, and change over to a westbound train.

Passengers wishing to disembark at New Westminster from a westbound train, please continue to 22nd St. Station and change over to an eastbound train.

Effective February 1st until October 2012 - Elevator Unavailable due to Faregate Construction

The Scott Road Station elevator (west side) will be out of service due to station renovations for the TransLink Compass card and Faregate project.

Passengers with mobility impairments arriving by bus and requiring an elevator to access the SkyTrain platform may ask an onsite SkyTrain Attendant for assistance which will usually be a taxi ride to the elevator on the station’s east side.

Passengers with mobility impairments arriving by bus and requiring an elevator to access the SkyTrain platform may also board the C71 community shuttle. The C71 connects Scott Road, Gateway and Surrey Central stations with hourly service seven days a week and every half hour Monday to Friday during the morning and afternoon rush.

Passengers with mobility impairments arriving by SkyTrain and requiring an elevator to access the bus loop should use the elevator on the east side of the station and then ask an onsite SkyTrain Attendant for assistance.

Effective Wednesday February 1st to Tuesday July 31st, 2012.

In preparation for the electronic fare card and faregates, the Surrey Central elevator and the north entrance (including the escalator and stairs) will be closed. We regret the inconvenience however the work is necessary to complete the construction needed to install the new faregates.

During construction, we ask passengers with mobility impairments who require the use of an elevator to use Gateway or King George as their alternate station.

There are four different bus routes connecting Surrey Central and Gateway stations, providing up to 20 trips per hour throughout most of the day. These routes are:

1. C71 Surrey Central Station/Scott Road Station
2. C73 Guildford/Surrey Central Station
3. 332 Guildford/Surrey Central Station
4. 335 Fleetwood/Surrey Central Station

People who use the elevator now will need to allow extra time for their trips.

Extra staff will be on hand to provide assistance.

CP Rail Workers Issue Strike Notice

As you may be aware, the conductors, locomotive engineers and the rail traffic controllers that help West Coast Express operate are employees of CP Rail. Their union and CP Rail are in the process of negotiating a new labour agreement. As part of this process, CP Rail unionized workers have issued a 72 hours strike notice which means they will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. the morning of Wednesday, May 23rd.

CP Rail is aware of West Coast Express's expectations of continued service in the event of job action by their unionized employees as well as our commitment to you, our passengers. With that in mind, we have been working with CP Rail and our partners at TransLink on contingency plans in the event of job action. These contingency plans include a number of options: expanded TrainBus services; bus shuttles to SkyTrain Stations; and, encouraging West Coast Express passengers to ride share or telecommute when possible. In the event of any job action, we will act on these plans when possible and provide updates for customers as soon as they come available.

Given how fluid these situations can be, we would also like to encourage you to get up to date information online, and to listen to local media for the latest developments about any possible service impacts to West Coast Express on Wednesday and any service alternatives that might be in place.
