There are over 100,000 bus passenger trips in the Broadway corridor each day!

UBC Line Rapid Transit Study

Broadway is one of the most important corridors in the region, connecting major population, employment and institutional centres. Central Broadway and the University of British Columbia are two of the largest transit destinations in the region, outside of Vancouver’s downtown core.

Demand for improved transit is high and will continue to grow as more people live, work, shop, study and use the many services in the area.

Finding the Right Solution
TransLink and the Province are working with the City of Vancouver, University of British Columbia, University Endowment Lands and Metro Vancouver on a multi-year technical study for rapid transit service along the Broadway corridor from Commercial Drive west to UBC.

The UBC Line Study Area extends approximately 12 km from Commercial Drive to the University Endowment Lands and University of British Columbia along the Broadway corridor, with approximately a 500m zone on either side of Broadway.

Transportation consultants Steer Davies Gleave will examine the full range of rapid transit alternatives for the corridor over three phases as shown.

In Phase 1, the team assessed the transportation needs, worked with stakeholders, and conducted a preliminary analysis on the many possible technology and route combinations. A recommended shortlist of alternatives has been identified, and consultation on these alternatives is underway.
