The Universal Transit Pass

U-Pass Logo

The "U" in U-Pass BC stands for "Universal". All eligible students at participating schools pay the low monthly price of $30 for access to transit services. A U-Pass BC gives students access to bus, SeaBus and SkyTrain services within Metro Vancouver, as well as discounts on West Coast Express.

New U-Pass BC Program

With the start of the new September 2011 semester, 10 public post secondary institutions in Metro Vancouver signed up to participate in the U-Pass BC program. Through a partnership between the Province of British Columbia, TransLink and BC Transit, the new U-Pass BC program is open to all public, post secondary schools across the province. We're the first province in Canada to have a truly "Universal" U-Pass!

TransLink's support of the new U-Pass BC program is available to all eligible public, post secondary institution campuses in Metro Vancouver (University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, Capilano University, Langara College, Emily Carr University of Art & Design, Vancouver Community College, Douglas College, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, British Columbia Institute of Technology, Nicola Valley Institute of Technology and the Justice Institute of BC).

Now that all public post secondary institutions have the ability to join U-Pass BC, TransLink has discontinued the FastTrax program.

How was the U-Pass BC program implemented in my school?

To qualify for the U-Pass BC program, students attending public, post secondary institutions and their administrations were required to take the following steps:

  • the student society held a referendum to approve their entry into the U-Pass BC program at the monthly rate of $30
  • if students approved their participation, post secondary institutions were required to set up a process to administer the program
  • students, their post secondary institutions and TransLink then signed a standard agreement that included each signatory's rights and responsibilities for the program
  • students, their post secondary institution and the Province signed a standard Risk Mitigation Agreement that helps ensure the integrity and builds towards the sustainability of the new program

Vancity U-Pass Participating Schools

TransLink's original Vancity U-Pass program ended on August 31, 2011. As of September 1, 2011, all former Vancity U-Pass students and post secondary institutions met the new entry requirements to be part of the new U-Pass BC program.
