Highway 1/1A (TransCanada)

The TransCanada Highway (Highway 1) runs east-west through most of Metro Vancouver including the communities of Langley, Surrey, Coquitlam, Burnaby and Vancouver.  It is called the Upper Levels Highway through North and West Vancouver.  

Highway 1A connects downtown Vancouver to the TransCanada Highway in West Vancouver (the Upper Levels Highway) via W. Georgia St. and the Lions Gate Bridge. Highway 1 and 1A are owned by the BC Ministry of Transportation and maintained by Mainroad Contracting Limited.  

Alternate routes to Highway 1 through Metro Vancouver include:

  • Lougheed Highway (from Hope to Burnaby)
  • Barnet Hwy (in Burnaby)
  • Hastings St (in Vancouver)
  • 1A/99 (via Lions Gate Bridge) across the Burrard Inlet
  • Fraser Hwy (between Abbotsford & Surrey)
  • Kingsway (in Burnaby & Vancouver)
  • Marine Dr (from North & West Vancouver) to Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal
