Counter-flow schedule: From: 6 am – 9 am 2 lanes southbound; 1 lane northbound From: 3 pm – 6:45 pm 2 lanes northbound; 1 lane southbound

Reversible lane switches occurs during other times to suit traffic conditions.

Lions Gate Bridge

One of the iconic landmarks of Vancouver, the Lions Gate Bridge is also known as the First Narrows bridge.  

Built in 1938, this three- lane bridge crosses Burrard Inlet, via Highway 1A/99, connecting downtown Vancouver with North and West Vancouver. There are counterflow lane switches during rush hours to accommodate traffic flow.  

The bridge is owned by the Ministry of Transportation and maintained by Mainroad Contracting Ltd.

6 am – 9 am

  • Two lanes southbound; one lane northbound  

3 pm – 6:45 pm

  • Two lanes northbound; one lane southbound
