Commercial-Broadway Station Upgrades
Commercial-Broadway Station is a major transit hub for Metro Vancouver. It serves the highest number of passenger boardings in the SkyTrain system and is the terminus of the 99 B-Line, the region's busiest bus route. The high number of passengers accessing the station and transferring between services requires improvements to capacity and circulation within the hub, as well as better connections to the surrounding neighbourhood.
Phase 1 – Complete
Construction is now complete on Phase 1 of the improvements to Commercial-Broadway Station that were identified through the Commercial-Broadway Transit Village Plan. The plan was developed through consultation with stakeholder groups, including local business and residents organizations. It identified strategies for improving the Station, its immediate environment, and the surrounding public realm over both the near-term and longer term. This project was part of the Urban Transportation Showcase Project, a series of pilot projects completed in partnership with Transport Canada, TransLink and local governments.
Phase 1 improvements included:
- New 10th Avenue entrance, with new stairs, escalator and elevator to improve accessibility
- Removal of the elevator at the north end of the station to reduce congestion
- New glass walls at the ground level for improved visibility and daylight
- New paving/tiling at the ground level
- Provision of new retail spaces for future use
Market research was conducted to evaluate the impact of the improvements on public perception of the station. These results, plus other documents related to this project, can be found in the Related Documents box to the right.
