What We Heard

November and December 2010

Four stakeholder and public consultation events in New Westminster and Coquitlam took place in November and December 2010, to begin discussing the best approach for the United Boulevard Extension. We heard concerns for the options presented and impacts on the local neighbourhood. These options did not meet public or city council approval.

March 12 and 16, 2011 – Phase 1

To continue the discussion, we held workshops with the community to better understand what they value the most in their communities and their transportation concerns, as well as their ideas to address these concerns. We heard from six members of the community who presented their ideas. This input helped to develop the community concepts for discussion in Phase 2.

April 13 and 30, 2011 – Phase 2

Five concepts were developed based on Phase 1 work. These concepts were evaluated on four key considerations: community values, reasonable affordability, meeting project objectives and technical feasibility. Two concepts were carried forward for further discussion to identify what the community liked, didn’t like and additional community improvements.

Using public feedback, the concepts were refined. Input from this phase is helping to improve the concepts so a preferred approach can be identified.

May 19, 2011 – Phase 3

Based on limited community support for TransLink’s selected United Boulevard Extension concept, the recommended solution as a result of this process was not to proceed with the extension, and share the work the community did to develop ideas for community enhancement measures with the City of New Westminster for future consideration.
