What's Next

Phase 2 of the Surrey Rapid Transit Study is underway. Here's a brief look at what's next!

Chart showing Phase 1, 2 and 3 timeline

Phase 1: Winter 2010 - Fall 2010

Using feedback from stakeholders and technical analysis, we identified 10 alternatives for future rapid transit expansion for Surrey and surrounding communities. Stakeholder and public consultation in October 2010 confirmed these alternatives were the right ones for more work.

Visit the Phase 1 section for more information.

Phase 2: Winter 2011 - Late 2011/Early 2012

Using your input from Phase 1 consultation, the study team has developed preliminary designs of each alternative, including designing more specific routes and identifying potential station locations. The designs helped in generating costs, assessing impacts, forecasting ridership and other details we need to evaluate and compare the alternatives.

May/June 2011: We held public consultation on the design assumptions of the 10 alternatives and their benefits and impacts that we considered in the initial evaluation. We are now tabulating the input and feedback you gave us on this analysis. This input will help us refine the designs and finalize the evaluation.

Late 2011/Early2012: We'll report back to you on this work and seek your input on the findings. The results will then be presented to decision makers at TransLink and the Province, who will use these results, consultation outcomes, and advice from the study partners (City of Surrey, City of Langley and Metro Vancouver) to identify a preferred alternative.

Phase 3: To be determined Once a preferred alternative has been identified, Phase 3 will begin. In this phase, the preferred alternative will be designed in detail, and potential phasing and a timeline for implementation will be created. You'll have opportunities for input during this phase!
