Area Transit Plans Overview
Developing Area Transit Plans
TransLink has an established process for working with municipalities and local communities to develop detailed plans for service. A key part of bringing the community into the planning process, these plans feature a long range view of each sub-region, as well as a shorter term strategy that outlines the main objectives and services as input to subsequent 10-year plans.
The planning process focuses on developing innovative, integrated and cost effective solutions in close consultation with municipalities, residents, transit users and other key stakeholders in each area.
All Area Transit Plans include a long-range transit vision, as well as identified shorter-range transit priorities. Transit planning is conducted at the community level for seven sub-regions of Metro Vancouver.
Who is responsible for transit planning?
TransLink undertakes the long range and strategic transit planning for the region as well as short term planning and funding. TransLink subsidiaries, such as Coast Mountain Bus Company, are responsible for the implementation of the services along with service planning issues such as identifying congested routes, planning new route layouts, identifying bus stops, creating the schedule, etc.
Who is responsible for land use planning?
Land use planning and zoning are the responsibility of the local municipality. They are also responsible for the provision of sidewalks and bus shelters.
