Summer in the City
June 21, 2012
Robson buses back on “Olympics route”; Granville buses on weekend detour
As summertime approaches and the city of Vancouver switches to “party mode”, two seasonal changes will affect transit users downtown between Saturday, June 23 and Labour Day.
During that time, the City of Vancouver will close the 800 block of Robson Street for outdoor events in Viva! Vancouver. The #5 Robson/Downtown and N6 Downtown NightBus will return to the routing used during the 2010 Winter Olympics. Eastbound #5 buses will turn right on Thurlow, and then follow Smithe, Burrard, Pender, Homer, Hastings and Richards to Pender; westbound buses will use Pender and Burrard to go back to Robson and resume the normal route.
The N6 will follow the same route eastbound, but turn off Pender onto Howe and continue to Davie and the regular route.
Viva! Vancouver will also result in weekend closures on Granville Mall, affecting all traffic, all day, beginning Fridays at 9pm. Buses that normally use Granville Mall will use Seymour northbound and Howe southbound all day Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Routes affected are the #4, #6, #7, #10, #14, #16, #17, #20 and #50. (This is a change from the rest of the year, when buses are routed off Granville only on weekend evenings.)
Summertime also means some seasonal changes elsewhere on the TransLink schedule:
• #19 Stanley Park will add shuttle buses from downtown (Hastings & Cambie) to the Stanley Park loop, to help handle additional crowds, starting June 25
• C26 Buntzen Lake/Coquitlam Station will run every hour between approximately 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays (effective June 16)
• #150 White Pine Beach/Coquitlam Station will run hourly between approximately 11am and 7pm, seven days a week (this took effect June 11; since April, the #150 has been operating on weekends and holidays only)
These seasonal changes are in addition to the service increase in April on the #620 Tsawwassen Ferry/Bridgeport Stn to meet BC Ferries arrivals and departures.
