O Canada It is something to sing about

Oh Canada! It’s Something to Sing About!

Take transit as you celebrate This Land of Ours!

From neighbourhood gatherings to big civic events, July 1st promises summer fun and celebrations as Canadians mark Canada Day 2012; and TransLink will provide additional services to help you get there and home again safely.

SkyTrain – Expo/Millennium Line will add additional trains throughout the day to handle the crowds expected to come to downtown Vancouver for the main events and the fireworks shows.

The last trains on the Expo/Millennium Line will leave Waterfront for King George at 1:16am and for VCC-Clark at 1:11am (one hour later than the normal closing time for Sundays and holidays). There will also be additional trains from King George to Waterfront until 12:38am, and as far as New Westminster until 1:28am for customers returning from the events in Surrey and Cloverdale.

Canada Line will run its regular hours, with the last train leaving Waterfront for YVR-Airport at 1:05am  and for Richmond-Brighouse at 1:15am. It will add trains, as needed, during the day – especially before and after the fireworks shows.

CUSTOMERS INTENDING TO BOARD ANY SKYTRAIN LINE AT WATERFRONT STATION NOTE: except for SeaBus customers and those requiring elevator service, there will be no access to the station from the Cordova Street entrance after 10:30 pm. Customers planning to take the Expo/Millennium Line must go to the Howe Street Entrance (close to Canada Place); those going to the Canada Line may enter by the Granville Street Entrance (between Hastings and Pender). Avoid possible ticket machine lineups by having exact cash fare, and pre-purchasing your return fare from SkyTrain staff at selected locations and times.

SeaBus will offer two-boat service, with departures every 15 minutes from Lonsdale Quay and Waterfront Terminal, from 10am until 11:30pm, and will continue to operate half-hourly until 1:22am (July 2). SeaBus customers intending to transfer to SkyTrain after 10:30pm may have to go through Waterfront Station and line up at the Howe Street or Cordova Street entrances.

Bus service will run on the regular Sunday/holiday schedule, although there will be additional coaches available at the transit supervisors’ discretion. For customers returning to Surrey from downtown Vancouver there will be additional trips on the #319, #320 and #321 to connect with the last SkyTrain to King George, leaving Waterfront at 1:16am.

West Vancouver Transit buses will have additional coaches to help take people to and from the fireworks at Dundarave as well as to serve crowds going to the fireworks show at the City of Vancouver.

On Monday, July 2, which is a statutory holiday, all TransLink services, including SkyTrain, SeaBus and Bus, will operate on Sunday/holiday schedule. There will be no West Coast Express on this date.

Please note that – as on weekends, buses that normally use Granville Mall will again run via Seymour northbound and Howe southbound on the holiday Monday.
