APTA Gold Level Status, Sustainability Commitment

TransLink has adopted a Sustainability Policy to foster development of a sustainable transportation system that aims to meet the needs of people, organizations and businesses, as well as promote the ecological, economic and social well-being of the Metro Vancouver region and beyond.

The Sustainability Policy is a key instrument in achieving the goals of Transport 2040 and the corporate vision of creating a better place to live built on transportation excellence. The policy recognizes that TransLink enables others to make sustainable transportation choices, and has a responsibility to operate in a manner that is socially, environmentally and financially sound.

 

Tracking Progress – TransLink 2012 Sustainability Report

TransLink issues a report disclosing its corporate sustainability performance every two years. We use sustainability reporting as a medium to voluntarily disclose performance in areas that go beyond typical financial reports to ensure the organization is accountable and transparent to the people of the Metro Vancouver region, all levels of government and industry peers. 

Our 2012 Sustainability Report tracks the progress our organization has made since 2009. It discloses corporate sustainability performance for the period covering January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011 in four principal areas: governance and management, environment, funding, and people. The report measures performance for several dozen indicators that meet international standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). 


 

APTA Gold Level Status – Sustainability Commitment

In 2011, TransLink achieved Gold Level status under the APTA Sustainability Commitment for its significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, cutting energy use and emitting fewer pollutants. TransLink is the first transportation authority in North America to ever achieve Gold Level, which was granted following a rigorous peer-reviewed application process.

TransLink is a founding member of the APTA Sustainability Commitment, under which transportation companies across North America commit to a core set of actions on sustainability.
