Expect delays in weekend SkyTrain service in November
Customers using SkyTrain on the first three weekends of November should allow an extra 10 to 15 minutes if travelling east of Edmonds Station, as the BC Rapid Transit Co. replaces sections of the running rail in the vicinity of New Westminster Station. This will require the closure of one track at a time for the entire weekend, from close of service Friday night until the start of service the following Monday morning.
The rails are part of the original track, laid in 1985 for the opening of the Expo Line, and are due for replacement. On the weekends of November 7-8, 14-15 and 21-22, trains will run on a single track, alternating directions, from a single platform at 22nd St. and New Westminster Stations. SkyTrain Attendants will be on hand to provide directions.
Trains between Edmonds and Columbia Stations will run every 16 to 18 minutes in each direction, including waits up to 6 minutes at one of the following stations: Edmonds, New Westminster or Columbia. Millennium Line trains will run will run every 7-9 minutes, as opposed to the usual 6-to-8-minute service, and will operate only between VCC-Clark and Columbia Stations. Customers going between Millennium Line stations and south Burnaby or downtown Vancouver will need to change at either Columbia or Commercial-Broadway stations.
Additional trains will run between Waterfront and Edmonds Stations, to help maintain near-normal frequency and capacity on the western half of the Expo Line.
Overnight work in the Dunsmuir Tunnel, Mondays through Fridays, will continue through this period will continue through this period (with some exceptions during special events in downtown Vancouver).
